Canterbury raced Belle Vue Babes (later renamed the Colts) in the first ever British League Division Two match at Belle Vue on 8th May 1968 - the Crusaders team and scorers were :

The first race of the first match ended in a 5-1 defeat to Canterbury the riders were- 1.Taffy Owen, 2. Ken Eyre, 3.Lex Milloy 4.Tyburn Gallows (dnf)

 

The first match at Kingsmead was held on 18th May 1968, it was the return match against Belle Vue Colts. The crowd was 7,000+ Crusaders Lost 38-39

 

The last match at Kingsmead was against Rye House on 31st October 1987, the second leg of the Kent - Herts trophy Crusaders Won 49-29 Aggregate score was 85-71 to the Crusaders

 

Crusaders took part in the first British League Division Two Knock Out cup match when they beat Crayford 56 - 37 at Kingsmead on 10th August 1968

 

Crusaders won first British League Division Two Knock Out cup in 1968 when they beat Reading 112 - 80 on aggregate

 

Crusaders never recorded a dead heat in over 700 League and Cup matches.

 

The best League win at Kingsmead was the 63 - 14 defeat of Teeside in 1976

 

The best League wins away from Kingsmead were against Crayford (1970) and Barrow (1978) where the score was 28 - 50

 

They had a 100% success record in the league against Newport, they raced just two matches in 1977 and Crusaders won home and away

 

They had a 100% failure record in the league against Chesterton (who later became Stoke), they raced just two matches in 1973 and Crusaders lost home and away

 

Their best record against teams who were in the league for more than a couple of season was against Long Eaton from 1969 to 1987 they Played 24 Won 19 (8 away)

 

Their worst record against teams who were in the league for more than a couple of season was against Newcastle from 1975 to 1987 they Played 22 Lost 17 (5 at home) Drew 1

 

By winning the league in 1970 and 1978 they were one of only 5 teams that won the league more then once between 1968 and 1987. The others were Eastbourne (4) Newcastle (3) Birmingham (2) and Belle Vue (2)

 

Their favourite league position seems to have been third from the bottom of the league which they achieved on 7 occasions!
